School Admissions

According to the Standard Rules of Admission to educational organizations implementing educational curricula of primary, basic secondary, general secondary education, applications from parents or legal representatives of children entering the first grade are accepted from June 1 to August 30 of the current year.
Also, according to the Standard Rules, the acquisition of classes according to the level of training and the degree of development of students is not allowed, and the maximum number of students in one class should be no more than 25 students.
Parents or other legal representatives of the child have the right to choose any educational organization for training (subject to availability).
The beginning of school life is quite a significant and exciting event for a child and his parents.
The school will provide children with basic education, develop their social skills and will be a second home for many years.
For you, as parents, it is necessary to properly draw up all the necessary documents so that the child's enrollment in the desired school will pass without any interference.
In this article we will tell you how to do it.
1. At what age is it better for a child to go to the first grade?
Since 2019, amendments to the Law "On Education in Kazakhstan" have come into force in Kazakhstan, according to which children who have reached the age of 6 this year must go to school.
Secondary schools of the Republic of Kazakhstan can accept children from the age of 5 into the first grade if they turn 6 years old by the end of December of the current year.
It should be borne in mind that pre–school training is carried out in preschool organizations from the age of five during one academic year, also in pre-school classes and the family.
2. What should a child going to the first grade be able to do?
Pay attention to the fact that the child:
- knew his last name, first name, how old he was, last name, parents' name, where they work, address of residence;
- pronounced all the sounds, was able to answer the questions posed with a full sentence, compose stories consisting of 3-4 sentences;
- was able to retell the content of the listened story, fairy tales and other works;
- could count from 1 to 20;
- called geometric shapes;
- was able to navigate in directions (right, left, top-bottom, etc.);
- distinguished colors, independently painted the "coloring book" with colored pencils or paints, without going beyond the contours of the sample, etc.
The presence of these indicators indicates that your child is ready for school. And if you think that the child does not possess the above knowledge, skills and abilities, then you should not be upset here either.
Teachers will help first-graders to adapt to school life.
3. Enrollment in a general education institution
Applications from parents or other legal representatives of children (guardian, foster carer) entering the first grade of primary education organizations are accepted from June 1 to August 1 of the current year.
You can apply to an educational institution without leaving home through the e-government portal. If parents provide an incomplete package of documents, expired documents, establish the unreliability of the submitted documents, as well as overcrowding of class kits, the educational organization refuses to accept the application.
When a child enters the first grade, secondary schools do not conduct exams or tests, and admission to gymnasiums and lyceums is carried out on a competitive basis.
4. List of documents required for admission to a secondary school
For citizens of Kazakhstan:
• Application of a parent or other legal representative.
• Birth certificate (copy).
• Health certificates – health passport (f-026/u-3), vaccination card (f-065/u).
• 2 3x4 cm photos.
Gymnasiums and lyceums provide admission of children on a competitive basis. With this selection, the child is invited to an interview to determine his level of training. The interviewees include a primary school teacher, a medical worker (psychologist), a social teacher.
For foreigners
For foreigners, the same conditions apply as for citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Parents or other legal representatives must temporarily or permanently reside in our country.

• stateless person – certificate of a stateless person;

Persons temporarily residing in the Republic of Kazakhstan submit a copy of their passport and a copy of their migration card. The director of the school enrolls them in the number of students in the appropriate classes, according to the level of education they received abroad, in accordance with the documents on education. In the absence of such documents, a commission is formed in the education departments, which determines the educational level of the applicant.
