Museum

Date of foundation: September 7, 1966

The School Museum of Military Glory of Secondary School No. 4 was opened on September 7, 1966. The initiator and founder of the museum back in 1966 was a history teacher - Ada Yakovlevna Karagodina. The guys read a small article in the regional newspaper that people who were participants in the storming of the Reichstag live next to them. The guys with Ada Yakovlevna start searching for participants in the storming of the Reichstag and find Kutysh P.A., Volochaeva K.M., Mishchenko I.A., Enna A. T., Syanova I.Ya.
The teaching staff of secondary school No. 4 under the leadership of Henrietta Eliseevna Korshun, at that time she was the director of the school, was imbued with a patriotic idea – to create a museum at the school, where the heroic path of the Kustanai warriors would be illuminated.
All the material of the museum is connected with the 151st separate rifle Brigade, which was formed in the city of Kostanay in the period from December 1941 to April 1942. The 151st separate rifle Brigade was formed during the period when the Army smashed the Germans near Moscow, stopped them near Leningrad, inflicted a major defeat on the Northwestern Front.
On December 22, 1941, the formation of the 151st brigade began, the commander of which was appointed Major L.V. Yakovlev, who arrived from the Leningrad front.
Most of the fighters and junior brigade commanders were residents of the Kostanay and Chelyabinsk regions. Officers came from military schools and hospitals.
On April 26, 1942, the formation of the brigade ended and the first railway echelon left for the front, followed by the entire brigade under the unfurled banner of the workers of the city of Kostanay. The brigade was moving by rail to the North-Western Front.
On May 9, 1942, the last echelon of the brigade unloaded at the Valdai station.
From June 1942 to mid-August 1943, the brigade conducted fierce battles in the area of the Ramushevsky corridor.
In September, an order was received to form a 150-rifle division, the commander of which was appointed L.V.Yakovlev (slide 5). The headquarters of the 151 separate rifle brigade was transformed into the headquarters of the 150 division; the 756th rifle regiment was formed from the rifle battalion, and all brigade units and subunits deployed into divisional units. The division was fully staffed according to the staffing table.
On May 1, 1944, Vasily Mitrofanovich Shatilov took command of the 150th Infantry Division.
"Of course, at that time I could not even think," recalls Shatilov, "that it would be a great honor for this division to fight in the main direction of the battle for Berlin, to storm the Reichstag and plant the Victory Banner over it."
The pathfinders of the museum twice passed through the battlefields of the 150th division. From these campaigns, which the guys went through with WWII veterans Stepanova Galina Arsentievna and Zhuravlev Anatoly Yemelyanovich, they brought weapons and military trophies.
The trackers have replenished the museum with exhibits telling about the heroic past of the Kustanai warriors.
The museum has more than 3,500 exhibits. They were collected by pathfinders of all generations. These are personal belongings of veterans of the Great Patriotic War, letters, war trophies, photographs, land brought from the battlefields, from hero cities.

The museum works in the following directions:
Stages of the 150th Division's combat path.
The combat path of 151 separate rifle brigade.
Kustanaytsy - to the front.
Women of the 150th division.
The banner of Victory over the Reichstag.

To the right of the entrance to the museum is the exposition "Your Glory is immortal, division", where visitors see lists of participants in the Berlin operation, (slide 15) awarded the title of Heroes of the Soviet Union, photos of participants in the storming of the Reichstag, a photocopy of the travel order of Ilya Syanov, sent with a Banner hoisted over the Reichstag by M.Egorov and M.Kantaria, to Moscow to the Victory Parade. On the same stand there is a diagram of the storming of the Reichstag on April 30 – May 1, 1945 (slide 16), drawn by Major Zinchenko F.M., the first commandant of the Reichstag. The scheme was donated to the Zinchenko F.M. Museum at a meeting of veterans of the 150th Rifle Division in 1984.
Below is a stand with Orders and Decrees of the Government of the USSR on the assignment of division names and awards.
Next is the exhibition "We remember! We are proud!", which contains photos from the meetings of veterans of the 151st separate Brigade and the 150th Rifle Order of Kutuzov, 2nd degree of the Idritsko-Berlin Division.
Below is the stand "Kustanaytsy – front" about the Kustanaytsy who made an invaluable contribution to the Victory.
The original documents, the earth from the battlefields, the material about the only son of the regiment who visited the walls of the Reichstag - Zhor Artemenkov, with whom correspondence is still being conducted, are stored in the glass stained-glass windows.
In the central stained glass windows, material about the heroes of the Second World War is collected: Ilya Syanov, Rakhimzhan Koshkarbayev, Galina Arsentievna Stepanova, Arkhip Timofeevich Enna and the internationalist soldier, the Holder of two Orders of the Red Star, the former graduate of the school Igor Shilo, who died in the performance of international duty in Afghanistan.
On the central wall there is a stand of the 150th division's combat path. Below are portraits of veteran residents of Kostanay.
In the glass stained-glass windows there are military finds of pathfinders twice, in 1969 and 1971, who passed through the battlefields of the 150th division from the Valdai station to Riga.
There are also books about the division.
Correspondence with veterans and trips to the battlefields made it possible to replenish the museum with military exhibits and memories of the heroic past of our Kostanay residents. There is a mock-up of the "Eternal Sons of the Fatherland" imitating the wall of the Reichstag (slide 30). He was sent from Leningrad by WWII veterans, the Shebashovs. It was based on this layout that in 1979 a memorial monument to the "Eternal Sons of the Fatherland" was erected in the courtyard of the school.
The cabinets contain 1,350 letters, materials about the war and literature of the war years. Personal belongings of Boris Alexandrovich Yurovsky and Yuri Fedorovich Stepanov are stored in wall niches. Litvinov Pavel Alekseevich and Stepanova Galina Arsentievna, which the veterans donated to the museum at meetings or sent by mail. Also in one of the niches are Igor Shilo's personal belongings, transferred to the museum by Igor's mother, Valentina Nikolaevna.
